Everything the editor does, and nothing it does not

An expiry you choose

Ten minutes, an hour, a day, a week, or thirty days on PRO. When the timer runs out the link stops resolving for everyone, including you.

Burn after reading

One deletion decides who gets the text, so a second request that arrives at the same moment gets a 404 rather than a copy.

Encrypt in your browser

The key is generated on your device and lives in the part of the link after the # symbol, which browsers never send to a server.

Password protection

A password is turned into a key in your browser at 150,000 iterations. The password itself never leaves the page, and the server only compares a stored tag.

A link you can edit later

Every paste comes with a manage link, shown once. It can replace the text or delete the paste without an account.

Short links with statistics

On PRO: label a link, cap it at a number of clicks, and read thirty days of daily counts, with a CSV export.

Twenty-five honest comparisons: pastebins, encrypted transfer tools, document suites and chat apps. Each page names the cases where the other tool is the better choice.

How it stays private

Nothing readable at rest

Pastes are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before they are written, using a per-paste salt, so a database dump is base64 noise.

No raw addresses

Rate limiting uses a keyed hash salted with the date. It stops repeat abuse within the day and stops linking a visitor to their own history after it.

No third parties

No analytics, no fonts fetched from a CDN, no external icons. The only outbound connection the page makes is the challenge that keeps bots out.

A strict content policy

Scripts run only from this origin and only with a per-request nonce, nothing is framed, and the page sends no referrer, so a link fragment can never leak.

Free, or five dollars once

Free covers everything most people need. PRO is a one-time payment for bigger pastes, a longer lifetime and the short link tools. Nothing recurring, no subscription to cancel.

Three steps

  1. 1

    Paste and choose

Drop in the text, pick an expiry, and add a password or encryption if it needs one. ⌘↵ creates the link.

  2. 2

    Send one link

Copy it, keep the manage link somewhere safe, and close the tab. There is nothing else to remember.

  3. 3

    It disappears

At the expiry, or on the first read with burn after reading, or right now if you delete it from the manage link.

Questions people ask first

Is PasteOkay free?

Yes. The free plan allows pastes up to 512 KB, thirty pastes an hour and expiry up to seven days. PRO is a one-time payment of five dollars for 2 MB pastes, a higher rate, thirty-day expiry and the short link tools.

Do I need an account to create a paste?

No. PasteOkay creates a paste without an account. If you want PRO features, the service gives you a random account number that is shown once; there is no email address and no password to reset.

Can PasteOkay read a paste encrypted in the browser?

No. The browser generates the encryption key and places it after the # in the link. Browsers do not send URL fragments to servers, so the server stores only ciphertext.

What happens when a paste expires?

Every read compares the expiry against the current time, so an expired paste stops resolving immediately. The row is physically removed during a later cleanup, and the content is never shown again.

How is PasteOkay different from Pastebin?

PasteOkay has no public paste directory and no ads. Pastes are private by default, can be password protected or encrypted in the browser, and can be deleted with a manage link that is shown once.

Can I delete a paste before it expires?

Yes. Creating a paste returns a manage link. The secret part of that link stays in the browser and lets the creator replace the text or delete the paste at any time.
